The Pentel Smash has been a cult favorite in Japan since 1987 — a drafting pencil built for everyday writing, with a low center of gravity, a textured rubber grip that stays put through long sessions, and a 4mm fixed lead sleeve that works cleanly against rulers and straight edges. The nose cone and grip are one piece, so the tip never unscrews mid-stroke. A rotating lead grade indicator sits in the center of the barrel, a hidden eraser under the cap, and a satisfying knock mechanism that lives up to the name.
