Beg | Mid | End is a generative creative writing workshop designed to inspire experienced writers and welcome non-writers who are curious to explore creative writing or engage their imagination for a few hours.
Guest artist Ishaan Goel guides participants through exercises to foster openness, creativity, and playfulness. The workshop begins with group improv activities to create a supportive environment and build trust among participants. From there, a series of guided exercises explore foundational storytelling elements such as setting, character, and dialogue. The session culminates in a 20-minute writing period where participants craft a complete story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
The goal is to make creative writing more accessible and transform what is typically a solitary endeavor into a shared, communal experience. Each participant leaves with the beginnings of a story they can continue to develop or keep as a personal keepsake.
Ishaan is a gatherer, writer, and performer exploring art as a socially engaged, bottoms-up practice in Brooklyn, NYC. He hosts creative workshops and open mics every month that encourage playfulness and experimentation. His day-to-day practice involves meandering, loitering, journaling, doodling, and eavesdropping—all of which occasionally spiral into a silly short story or (at the very least) a bit with his friends. He embraces the absurd, the intimate, and the in-between, constantly looking for ways to blur the line between the mundane and whimsical.
